This Week in Room 205 - 5/3 to 5/7

Monday - Underground Railroad from the History Channel. "A new documentary that unveils the history, heroes, and villains of the Abolitionist movement." Homework - Period 1 and 2 - Chapter 8 Section 2 read p263 to 270 and answer q's #1-4 on p270. Homework Period 4 and 6 - Chapter 8 Section 1 read p254 to 262 and answer q's #1-4 on p262.

Tuesday - Underground Railroad - Quilt creation in class, groups of two to three students will work on creating a quilt piece for our class quilt, depicting the Underground Railroad traveling north. Period 4 and 6 - Chapter 8 Section 2 read p263 to 270 and answer q's #1-4 on p270.

Wednesday - Finish Underground Railraod quilts and present them to the class. Homework - one page written description and response to creating quilts.

Thursday - HALF DAY - Chapter 9 "Reform" Power Point and Discussion

Friday - Chapter 8 and Chapter 9 Quiz. Manifest Destiny introduction Power Point. Homework - Chapter 10, Section 1 - read p316 to p322 and answer q's #1-4 p322

This Week in Room 205 - 3/8 to 3/12

Monday - Do Now - Nationalism and the United States today. Causes of Nationalism. American Foreign Policy today and in the 1800s. HW - Choose one of the following to do exploratory research on at home tonight, and report back to the class tomorrow: Rush-Bagot Agreement; Convention of 1818; Adams-Onis Treaty; Monroe Doctrine. Also, study for the Map of 1820 Quiz tomorrow.

Tuesday - Map Quiz, Map of 1820. Monroe Doctrine and George Washington's Farewell Address.

Wednesday - Henry Clay's "American System." Discussion and explanation, the three main points. How does the American System inspire the Industrial Revolution? HW - Chapter 7 Section 2, read p231-237, answer q's on p237 #1-4

Thursday - Industrial Revolution in America. What does the Industrial Revolution do to change the United States? How do these changes make America a world power? Spirit Day - Sports wear! Don't forget about the 3 on 3 basketball tournament today! Parent Conferences tonight.

Friday - Modern Marvels - The Erie Canal

Monday - Lewis and Clark - Conclusions and Review. Honors - Discussion on "Undaunted Courage" Homework - Chapter 6 Section 4, read p210 to p215 and answer questions #1-4 on p215

Tuesday - The War of 1812 - Factors that lead the US to war then, and factors that lead us to war today.

Wednesday - The War of 1812 - Notes and Discussion on the War of 1812. What similarities do we see with the War of 1812 and the War in Iraq / Afghanistan today? Homework - Chapter 6 Review p216 Identifying People and Ideas 1-10 and Understanding Main Ideas 1-4

Thursday - Looking back -Students will examine whether or not the War of 1812 was necessary. Honors - Homework - read Marbury v. Madison . Review sheet handed out for Test on Tuesday.

Friday - Video - "The Presidents - Washington to Madison" from The History Channel

Monday - Sharing Lewis and Clark books. What did you find that was interesting? Exciting? Bizzare? Homework - US Map circa 1803

Tuesday - Map review, answers. Video - "National Geographic Presents: Lewis and Clark." Homework - Answer the following question - Assess whether the Lewis and Clark Journey is a massive failure or a tremendous success. Be prepared to defend your answer in class in a debate on Wednesday. Study for the Map Quiz.

Thursday - Marbury v. Madison - party politics and judicial review. Homework - Read Washington's Farewell Address.

Friday - Looking back - Washington's Farewell Address and its reprecutions. Did we follow Washington's advice or not? What has happened in the 10 years since his address that would lead you to believe we have or haven't?
